HACA is not accepting applications for any programs at this time.
HACA doesn’t anticipate re-opening its Wait Lists for months, possibly even years.
Currently, there are thousands of applicants on HACA’s Section 8 and Public Housing Wait Lists. We don’t anticipate opening the wait list or accepting applications for months, possibly even years. When we do, we will place a notice on the home page of our web site (www.haca.net) and in the Public Notice section of local newspapers.
Far more people need housing assistance than what HACA can provide. Because of the overwhelming demand for assistance, when HACA’s wait lists get low, we hold a lottery to select families to add to the wait list. A lottery ensures that all families who express an interest in Section 8 or Public Housing assistance are given an equal opportunity to apply for a limited number of openings.
Your place on the wait list can go up or down as families’ preferences change. If you are currently on one of HACA’s Wait Lists, click here to find out how close you are to the top.
HACA does not provide emergency housing. If you need emergency housing assistance, or need information about any health or human services provider in Alameda county, contact Eden Information & Referral.
Other Housing Authorities
Most Housing Authorities open their wait lists for only brief periods of time. Regardless, one or more may be accepting applications now. Here are the other Bay Area, and Northern and Central California Housing Authorities: (click on H.A. name to see their web site)

Contact apartment complexes directly to inquire about unit availability, eligibility criteria, application process, and rents. Since most complexes have a waiting list, you may want to contact more than one, and place your name on more than one waiting/interest list.
